Kickoff Letter

 Buddy Walk Since 2007

Hello Everyone,

It’s that time of the year to kick off our Buddy Walk.  We are so excited for this time to gather together and celebrate community inclusion and awareness.  This is our 10th year and many of you already know what a Buddy Walk is, but for those of you who are new to this beautiful event, here it is in a nut shell.  This year is even more special.  The Buddy Walk will be beautiful luminary evening one-mile advocacy walk after a nice dinner. The evening will be filled with fun activities for all ages! Over the past nine years, this event has included petting zoo, clowns, music, dancing, games, face painting, basket raffles, pet adoption, and much more! The purpose of the Buddy Walk is to help promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. It is an inspirational and educational event that celebrates the many abilities and accomplishments of people with Down syndrome.

Last year’s Buddy Walk was a huge success! We had over 500 walkers and raised nearly $25,000! These funds make it possible for us to provide new parent baskets, sponsorships to state and national conferences and training for children and adults.  It supports our “Next Chapter Book Club”, our newly formed D.A.D.S Group, our gratitude sensory garden and provides funds for parties and hikes.  We have plans to sponsor training programs to volunteer leaders for a Sibling Group.  It also helps us support other special need non-profit organizations in our community.

This fun family event would not be possible without our participants, donors, sponsors, and the dedication of our Buddy Walk Committee. We are looking forward to a great evening of celebration!

BUDDY WALK REGISTRATION FEES:

Individual: $25 (includes dinner and 1 T-shirt)

Group: $75 for a group of 4 (includes dinner and 4 T-shirts). Additional group members: $15 (includes dinner and a T-shirt).  On the evening of the event $30 pp or $90 for 4.  Register by September 12th for guaranteed Shirt.   Maximum capacity for dinner is 500 so register early.

Teams can submit cash/check donations at any of the t-shirt pickup days

DEADLINE FOR TEAM CAPTAIN PRIZES:

Tuesday, October 6 is the deadline for teams to submit money to qualify for fundraising prizes and the deadline for team registrations to qualify for “Most Walkers” prize. Please see the Team Captain Packet for a list of prizes and other important and helpful information for team captains.

(Online donations/registrations count up to 11:59pm on October 4, 2017.)

SEND US YOUR PHOTOS!

This year we would like to place photos of all participants with Down syndrome along the one-mile walking path of the Buddy Walk. So, we are asking that you send us your favorite photo of your loved one.

The deadline is Sunday, September 12.

If you are interested, please email a high-quality picture to: info@tcdownsyndromeag.org  or mail an 8×10 to 4755 SE Dixie Hwy. # 456, Port Salerno, FL 34992-0456

Include your child’s name, age, city, and state with your photo!   Also a phrase that best describes your child.

The Buddy Walk Committee will review and approve 10.

We ask that you please do not take the SIGN/STAKES the day of the walk as we reuse these each year. Thank you in advance for your support! (Please note: photos will not be returned.)

SPECIAL MEMORIAL SECTION

A special note for our families who have lost a loved one with Down syndrome: Each year, along our walkway path, we also have a special section to honor and remember those who are no longer with us. If you would like to have a sign honoring your loved one in our special memorial section, please send your request (photo, special notes, dates, etc.) to the above address or email.
